The published out-of-town rate for Kitchener, HST included, the same to 299 Doon Valley Dr, Kitchener, ON N2G 4M4 as to any address in the city, and the same in both directions. 80 to 95 km · about 60 to 80 minutes. Never surges.

Conestoga's Doon campus sits right beside Highway 401 at Homer Watson Boulevard, which makes it one of the more straightforward campus drives from Pearson: about 80 kilometres west, off at the Homer Watson exit, and a few minutes to Doon Valley Drive. With one of the largest international student populations of any college in the country, the September and January arrival weeks bring a steady line of families to the Pearson curb, and the job is to make that last hour uneventful.

The fare is the Kitchener published out-of-town rate, HST included, for the Doon campus and any Kitchener address. Conestoga's other campuses sit in cities with their own published rates: Waterloo, Cambridge, Guelph and Brantford each show their own number when you enter that campus address on the booking page. Whichever it is, the fare is fixed before you confirm and paid to the driver at the door, by card or cash in the car. Nothing is charged in advance.

Most bookings for this page arrive from a parent in another country. That works: the booking page takes an international mobile, and ticking that the passenger is someone else sends the driver's on-the-day text to the student while the confirmation stays with you. A student moving in for a two-year program almost always needs the SUV rather than the sedan: five bags in the back instead of three.

Your first landing at Pearson, in order

1. Your flight is tracked automatically from the moment you book, so a late departure or a slow taxi to the gate moves your driver's timing without a call from anyone.
2. Included waiting starts from wheels-down: 60 minutes on international arrivals, 30 on domestic. That is enough for immigration, a study permit interview, and baggage for almost everyone.
3. When you reach arrivals with your bags, look at your phone. Your chauffeur has texted the exact spot they are standing, curbside at your terminal, with the car's licence plate.
4. Walk out, find the plate, and the driver loads everything. Nothing to sign and nothing to pay yet.
5. At the campus door you pay the driver, by card or cash in the car, exactly the flat fare you saw when the trip was booked. HST is already in it.

Where the car goes on campus

• The Doon campus residence is on the campus itself, off Doon Valley Drive; name it in the booking notes and the driver goes to its entrance rather than the main college doors.
• Waterloo campus on University Avenue East, Cambridge campus on Fountain Street South, Guelph campus on Speedvale Avenue West and the Brantford campus downtown are each a separate city and a separate published rate; enter the campus address and the right fare shows.
• Student housing along Homer Watson Boulevard, in Doon South and around the Pioneer Park area is inside the Kitchener rate, as is downtown Kitchener for the campus there.
• The January intake lands in the coldest week of the year. The included waiting from wheels-down is the same 60 minutes on an international arrival whatever the weather, and the car is warm.
• An hour is the usual run outside the rush, and 80 minutes is realistic on a Friday or a weekday afternoon once the 401 slows through Milton. For a departing flight we set the pickup from live traffic.
