Georgian's Barrie campus is the largest of the college's seven, up Highway 400 at the top of Kempenfelt Bay, and the drive from the airport is about ninety kilometres of one road. It is a simple trip in good conditions and a long one in February, and either way it is the wrong journey to be arranging at the terminal door after a transatlantic flight.

The fare is one published out-of-town rate for the whole of Barrie, HST included, unchanged by the hour, the weather or a flight that lands late. The same number applies coming back to the airport. Payment happens at the end, handed to the driver by card or cash in the car, with no deposit taken and no card kept on file at any point.

A good share of these bookings are made by a parent for a student who has not been to Canada before, and the winter intake means arriving in the coldest weeks of the year. Where the car goes on campus

• Residence is an eight-storey building on Georgian Drive at the campus, housing several hundred students, looking west over the college and north toward Little Lake. It has its own street address, so put it on the booking rather than the main campus number and the car stops at the right entrance.
• One published rate covers the whole city, which means a shared student house in the south end or an apartment near the waterfront costs the same to reach as the campus itself.
• Georgian runs campuses across the region beyond Barrie, in Orillia, Owen Sound and elsewhere, each in its own city with its own fare. Enter the campus you are attending and the booking page shows the number for that trip.
• The run is roughly ninety kilometres and takes an hour to an hour and twenty minutes, almost all of it on Highway 400. Northbound on a Friday afternoon in summer is the slow case, and cottage traffic does not change the fare.
• Snow is a real feature of this route between December and March. The car is winter-equipped and the driver leaves earlier for a departing flight rather than driving faster, and the flight tracking handles the arrival side on its own.
