York's Keele campus is one of the closest universities to Pearson, about 27 kilometres and 25 to 35 minutes by car: the 427 to the 401, east to Keele Street, and north to the campus. There is a subway now, and it is a good subway, but not with two suitcases and a duvet after fourteen hours in the air. The car goes to the residence entrance, the bags come out of the back, and the first hour in Canada is over before it feels like work.
The campus sits in its own zone on the official GTAA tariff, so the fare above is the flat number for the campus address, HST included, the same in both directions. It is paid to the driver at the door by card or cash in the car. Booking from overseas involves no deposit and no card on file; payment happens in the car at the end of the trip. Glendon, on Bayview Avenue, is a different zone; enter its address and the booking page shows its fare.
Alongside the September and January arrivals, the trip carries visiting faculty, families to convocation and travellers to the Aviva Centre. Choose the SUV for September: six passengers and five bags, against the sedan's three and three, and a first-year's belongings are rarely three bags.

Where the car goes on campus
- The undergraduate residences each have an entrance the driver goes to directly: Founders, Vanier, Winters, Stong, Bethune, Calumet, Tatham Hall and the Pond Road Residence. Name the building in the booking notes and the driver skips the main Keele Street entrance.
- The Quad on Ian Macdonald Boulevard and the student apartments along Assiniboine Road and The Pond Road are inside the same zone as the campus.
- Glendon campus on Bayview Avenue is a separate zone and its fare shows on the booking page when the Glendon address is entered.
- Vari Hall, Scott Library, York Lanes and the Aviva Centre are the drop-offs visitors ask for; all take the campus fare.
- Off-peak the drive is about 25 minutes; a weekday afternoon on the 401 through the Keele interchange can run it to 35. For a departing flight we set the pickup from live traffic.

No. Glendon is on Bayview Avenue in a different zone, and the booking page shows its fare as soon as the Glendon address is entered. The process is the same.
Can a parent outside Canada book for a student?
Yes. Enter your own mobile with its country code, tick that you are booking for someone else, and give the student's number. You receive the confirmation; the student receives the driver's curbside location and plate by text on landing. Payment is settled with the driver at the residence, so nothing is charged in advance and no card is kept.
What if the flight is late or immigration takes an hour?

Where does the driver meet a first-time arrival?
Curbside at arrivals at the student's terminal, and the student is told exactly where by text before they reach the carousel, along with the car's plate. If their phone has no Canadian service yet, add a parent's number to the booking.
Why not take the subway?
Plenty of students do once they know the city. On arrival day, with a year's luggage and no Presto card, a car to the residence door is the difference between a hard afternoon and an easy one, and from Pearson it is about half an hour.
